Project Description
The objective of the project was to create a narrative from the hidden stories of different people in Commercial Street, Bangalore. To study the spaces and relationships of the people to the environment, and how it's changed over the years.
The project was based around the famously known Commercial Street of Bangalore, and was a chance to learn all about its history, its current state and all of its possibilities. For this project, our group chose to focus on people and the various hidden stories that were stored within these hidden lanes and various corner stores.
The beauty of Commercial Street lies in how it has woven in both the new and old within one space, and how the people in this area have constantly been adapting to the dynamic nature of the place. After speaking to several store owners and residents, we discovered some interesting stories about their lives and we decided to depict these in form of a visual output — that was postcards.
The reason we chose to make postcards was to bring in the factor of nostalgia which was one the main characteristics of Commercial Street and also a commonality amongst the different conversations we had with the people of the area. The postcards were done both digitally and by hand.
The following are the layouts of the postcards that were designed based on the business owners' stories and backgrounds; it also incorporated elements specific to their business.

"I wake up, I come here, I work... and then, I go back home."
