Project Description
In an interesting class which required us to think of alternate worlds and contexts, we had to pick any product or work of art and imagine it in that scenario. Our objective, thus, was to take a product/artform/concept and position it in different contexts and environments, and understand how it would adapt
In this unit, we were given the opportunity to place our products/ideas in various contexts and thus learn to reconstruct their forms accordingly.
I picked a children’s book. We were given a dystopian reality wherein the world was governed by cyborgs and monitored via a centralised database. The task before us was to visualise how that environment would affect it or change the production or form of our concept. How would our concept exist therein? As a result, I did a short graphic novel which captured the impact on children’s books in the imagined reality. It outlined the effects of the dystopian system on the creation of books for children.
Tools Used: Adobe Illustrator / Adobe InDesign / One by Wacom
Below is the graphic novel I illustrated. The title 'Hadi' means quiet in Arabic. As someone who grew up in Dubai, I've always been attached to the city and so when I imagined this whole dystopian reality — I decided to set it in an Arabian country and use the beautiful language of Arabic for naming my graphic novel.
In a separate assignment, we were also asked to imagine our product in a form that was out of the ordinary, and to visualise how this unusual form would be received by users. We had to then write an investigative article which would speculate its reception. In my case, I envisioned a children’s book being produced as an audio book that would read aloud to children in a futuristic scenario, and the article imagined how users would respond to it.
This is the article that was written for the assignment:
