Roles: Field observation / Sketches / Iteration / Illustration / Layout design
Looking around at nature, finding elements in order to create a pattern. One element could be something from our immediate environment (such as a leaf, etc) and the other element could be any fruit or vegetable of our choice.
The process of creating our pattern began with an imitation sketch of the element that we had found from nature which was followed by a detailed sketch which would show the texture of the object through the use of shades and tones.
After this we had to simplify the detailed sketch of our element into an abstract form of it. We also had to do the same with our selected fruit image. Using the abstract form of our two elements, we had to create a pattern sheet with repetitions of our elements. Once the pattern sheet was doodled by hand, I digitised it on Adobe Illustrator using brush strokes and added colours.
I wanted my pattern to have a tropical and summery mood, and so I used some bright colours that would bring out this feeling. The last step was to incorporate our pattern onto some mockups of products, to see how it would appear.
